World Rogaine Champs

Our Route (in red) 76.2km - 1540 points.

So we thought, how often does the chance come across to do a World Champs? Here it was and only 6 hours drive away in the well known sport of Rogaining (The sport of long distance Orienteering). It involves running/trekking around searching for checkpoints with a map and a compass for 24hrs. Jerry and I entered and we only got an Entry as International team from S.A. We drove up there, coped a speeding fine, hit a wallaby, but arrived all well and good.

Super Roo in the Warrumbungles (note this missing front right grill - thanks wallaby)

We planned our route for 2hrs45min. Realised it was WAY longer than we could do (100km+). Then re-did our plan in 15 minutes and headed off. Into the 33 degree heat and buzzing flies, briefly interrupted with 10 hours of night, a shocking crossing of an electric fence, running out of water for 2 hrs before finding some tanks at disused farmhouse. All completed with a sprint finish to get back before the 24hr cut-off. We hit all our checkpoint spot on - so were really stoked with that and ended 48th of the 300+ teams entered from around the world.

Jerry, what country are you from? ...Columbia.
