The call of the Transkei wildcoast, reached as far as Sydney. A paper submitted - any excuse? Next thing we knew we were set for a fly by 2 week visit back home, with a week spent around the scenic spots of Joburg, Rustenburg, and Carltonville.

But not before been dragged off to a K2 10km time trial and an orienteering event.

Then a weekend with the folks down in the Drakensberg. Knocked off some classic hikes in the Royal Natal Area, Tunnel gorge and Crack and Mudslide. Watched the Rugby in a pub in Hlananthe.

Then off down via Durban, and a 1/4 bunny chow, to Wild coast sun. As a casino its past its day a little, but not a bad spot for the SAGA (South African Geophysics Conference). Some good papers, some good reviews, some good parties, some good diners - and 4 days later it was all over.
So why drive back to joburg along the N3 when you can take the scenic route (and rent a car) via St Lucia, Umfolozi, Pongola, Swaziland, Mbabane, Ermelo and back to Joburg in 2 quick days.
Another flip out to Rustenburg, cause we miss it soo much, and its such a lekker plek for a holiday. Then on the plane in the Afternoon and back into Sydney.
