Death Valley, Las Vegas, and Grand Canyon.

On our way back to LA after visiting the above places.
Death Valley - was Hot (43C) and low -50m (i.e below see level) and beautiful. Like only the Karoo (and outback) Farmers would understand. Dry desert, jagged mountains in the distance, some with snow covered peaks.

Las Vegas - What a shock to the system, after the dessert peace and quiet, this is still in the desert, but a kitcsh city like nothing else on earth. Eifel Tower, Sphinx, full scale recreation of New York Skyline, pyramids, nothing is too big or garish. Smoke filled rooms of pokey machines (they must out number people)...Hectic bru!

Grand Canyon - Lives up to it's name, finished off a battery and a 512MB card in my camera on it, wow. You cann't even see the grade 5 rapids on the Colorado river 1600m below you. The scale of it is almost too big to comprehend.

After a tourist visit to the Grand Canyon we headed through Flagstaff, stayed in Kingman. Then drove like maniacs back to Las Angeles. It was quite amazing to be 100km out of LA and to descend into the smog not to see the sun till we left two days later. We spent our last day staying in Anaheim (near Disneyland) visited some famous sites around Orange County and Newport, Longbeach, went shopping for more outdoor gear [naturally].
